DIS-SOS is an American-German blog project. The website is made possible by a generous couple who believe in making the world a better place for those who are hurting. Theresa volunteers as unpaid writer for the website. DID is called DIS in some non-english speaking countries, including Germany, therefore the name.
Theresa is 37 years old and got professionally diagnosed with DID in 2009. She studied psychology but couldn’t finish with a degree due to her symptoms at that time. She is still interested in science and has done a lot of reading (‘doing research’ is something very different from reading and she is not a researcher). You can find a list of sources for the blog specifically over here.
This blog is a personal collection of concepts, theories, explanations, exercises and ideas that have been helpful for Theresas own recovery. That means that it doesn’t represent the full range of information or exercises out there and it is biased towards gentle techniques. You will also find a cultural bias towards methods that are more commonly used in western europe. The content is a selection of the (subjectively) most helpful information out of a lot of information out there.
Theresa is currently in the second phase of her treatment where she works through key memories with the goal of integration. The system is open for fusion and curious about a life without dissociative barriers. Because of the covid pandemic, her stabilization phase ended up being extremely long, which is visible in her knowledge and experience concerning techniques for stabilization. She is currently working on a book project about stabilization for dissociative disorders from the view of a person with DID that will first be published in German.
Despite her disability, Theresa is active in political advocacy and holds a position in a council that advises her state government in matters of sexual abuse. This work has taken up a lot of her time and energy, which is why she is posting new articles irregularly now.
Because of her disability she isliving below the poverty line in her country and cannot offer you any financial support for your needs. You can donate to support her therapy over here.
When she is not reading, experimenting or advising, Theresa likes to read urban fantasy and does needle work while listening to audiobooks. She is learning how to cook authentic mexican food and tends towards contemplation and silence for inner balance. She is an introvert with a love for dogs and a rather withdrawn life. Her system is covert and her neigbours think she is a ghost.
